There is more than enough money in our economy to support a full service NHS for everyone who is in this soil. They are lying to you. Much in the same way that famine is 100% man made because there is enough food produced in the world to feed everyone ten times over. It's all about allocation of resources and the priority of that allocation which is dictated by politics.
If the government decided to have less contract nurses, less middle management, less of a tick box culture in the NHS they'd have more money for beds and equipment. Someone high up the chain is benefiting from that nursing contract that we really don't need. Someone benefited from the billions spent on the NHS IT project that's a failure. Another load of waste.
Why spend tax payers money on that huge hospital opposite Euston station and at the same time plan to close king George's a&e in Ilford. Is the community in Essex less deserving than those near Euston? (Or are w1 residents just richer?)
Don't belive the lies. The goverment can find money whenever they want. They are hardly cash strapped if they can consider renewing trident etc...

Good point.
Not really. These companies for all their faults are best of breed. How does society perform at the best level if it doesn't have the very best goods and services? For big industries where economies of scale is necessary it would be impossible in any short time for private or public companies to replace these firms.
It's like Cutting off your nose to spite your face.

The NHS will bankrupt the country unless it tackles the waste and corruption inside it and abandons the 'free at the point of use' principle.
All the NHS hospitals should be de-nationalised. Some could be run by private sector companies, others might be run by charities, foundations or even John Lewis style partnerships of the medical staff.
Financial independence would create an incentive for the owners and managers to cut waste and corruption. You would not get linen,medicines, syringes and other equipment stolen on anything like the scale that happens today.
They would also work out how to deliver hospital services more efficiently because if they don't they will go bust.
The government would continue to provide most of the funding but patients should be able to choose which hospital they go to, with the money following the patient. That is what will drive competition and efficiency.
And there has to be a system of co-payment as they have in Sweden, where visits to a GP or A&E are not free. Introducing co-pay would cut out all the frivolous use of the health service,of which there is a vast amount today. The average GP surgery this morning will be stuffed with people who are just lonely and want someone to talk to or just have a cold.
This isn't an uncaring point of view - the alternative is bankruptcy, with hospitals closing and genuinely sick people left to die. Milliband is lying when he claims that £1.5 billion raised from the mansion tax will solve the problem - it's a spit in a bucket and he knows it. There will never ever be enough money for a free at the point of use NHS.

How can you believe in small government and then keep the bloated NHS to record level of investment and waste
The scared cow the NHS is beyond control now one of the largest employers in he world to a smallish country , wish a party would have the bollocks to really reform the NHS instead of just clipping here and there- only free at the point of entry if you have paid in

Thee was a time when democratic governments of sovereign state nations could have set up conditions - rules of engagement, if you like - covering how much reach global corporations had within the boundaries of the countries who's population they were elected to serve.
That time, I believe, is now all but passed and all that is left really is punitive taxation with the aim of pricing out any unwelcome activity - unwelcome by the general population that is, much of that activity seems welcomed with open arms by an elite, chosen few.

I find myself mostly in the centre on lots of issues, perhaps my previous right wing stance has mellowed as I've seen the real world.
I don't really like David Cameron but Ed Miliband is a pathetic weasel twat, if he ended up in power we would be utterly fucked. His brother was far more likable and appeared to have a much greater authority.
